The Importance of Medical Check Up Beginning at a Young Age

Young age is not a guarantee that the body condition will always be healthy and free from the threat of disease. Therefore, you should not miss the medical check-up (MCU) even though you are still young. In fact, it would be great if you evaluated your health condition as early as possible to maintain a quality lifestyle.

Definition of Medical Check Up

A medical check-up or routine health check-up is a way to identify diseases or problems in their early stages that exist in the body. That way, if a disease or abnormality is detected at an early stage, treatment will be easier.

A medical check-up is not only in the form of a physical examination by a doctor but also includes deeper examinations such as laboratory tests based on early detection methods according to age, gender, and family medical history.

The Importance of Routine Medical Check Up

A thorough examination through MCU can be done since the age of 18 years. MCU can be routinely done at least once every 1–5 years. MCU is usually performed by patients over the age of 40 due to symptoms of serious illness.

But it would be better if MCU was routinely done from a young age to control health conditions as early as possible. Through this MCU, you can feel many benefits, such as:

1. Treating, Preventing, and Treating Severe Illness

If you have routinely done medical check-ups since you were young, then you will pay more attention to a healthy lifestyle in order to treat and prevent serious diseases. Through MCU, you can find out information about physical health and internal organs. You can also detect serious diseases early so that they can facilitate healing.

2. Lower Health Costs

If you routinely do MCU, a person can reduce health care costs by reducing the risk of undergoing surgery and other medical expenses. Of course, because you will be motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle, the results of medical check-ups will always be good.

3. Identifying Mental Illness

Not only can MCU find out about diseases related to physical and organ function, but it can also identify the presence of diseases related to human psychics. Such as stress, anxiety disorders, Alzheimer's, depression, and others. Furthermore, you will be given advice and support to prevent mental disorders.

Series of Medical Check Up Examinations

The series of MCU examinations begins with an anamnesis examination to find out patient information related to age, height, weight, disease history, and perceived complaints.

The next series includes:

1. Vital Signs Check

This examination includes body temperature, respiratory frequency, pulse frequency, and blood pressure. Blood pressure in infants, adolescents, adults, and the elderly can vary due to differences in body conditions. Here are the normal numbers:

  • 13-17 years: 108-143 (systolic), 62-94 (diastolic)
  • Adult: 120/80 mmHg
  • Elderly: 120/80 mmHg, but can vary slightly due to physiological changes in elderly organs

2. Laboratory Tests

There are several tests that will be carried out in laboratory examinations, including:

  • Haematology
To find out the quality and quantity of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and other things about blood.
  • Cholesterol
Uncontrolled cholesterol can lead to various serious problems, such as heart disease and stroke. Cholesterol is divided into two types, namely bad cholesterol (LDL) and good cholesterol (HDL). Normal total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/ddL. If it reaches 200–239 mg/dL, it is included in the high limit, and if it is more than 240 mg/ddL then it is categorized as high cholesterol.
  • Blood sugar levels
Currently, insulin resistance, or diabetes, attacks not only the elderly but also young people under the age of 20 and even small children. Blood sugar tests are usually done after fasting for 8 hours. Normal blood sugar levels after fasting are 70–100 mg/dL. If the blood sugar level is 100–125 mg/ddL then it is referred to as a pre-diabetic condition, while anything above 126 mg/ddL is considered diabetes.

3. Heart Function

A heart examination can be done with an electrocardiogram (ECG) test, also known as a heart record. Tests are done to determine the electrical activity of the heart. With this test, it can be detected if there is an abnormal heartbeat or other disorders, such as blocked blood vessels.
