This is the airplane baggage policy, so you don't have to pay a fine!

When traveling, carrying a certain amount of luggage is unavoidable. The baggage capacity allowed on each mode of transportation is different. This time let's take a closer look at the airplane baggage capacity for each passenger, and the sundries about it.

In general, baggage itself is a special space owned by a vehicle to store goods. In the context of airplanes, the available baggage is then intended for passengers' belongings, but has clear provisions on each airline you use.

Baggage for Each Passenger of the Flight

Airplane baggage regulations generally have their own references and are applied according to airline policies. However, in general, each airline will use a reference that is not much different.

Previously, there were two types of baggage on flights. They are called checked baggage and cabin baggage, each of which has different limits for airplane passengers.

  • Checked baggage is luggage that is handed over to the airline before you board the plane. This baggage will go in the cargo compartment of the aircraft and cannot be accessed during the flight. It will be removed when the plane lands via a predetermined path. The general weight of this type of baggage is 20 kilograms to 30 kilograms per passenger.
  • Cabin baggage is baggage that passengers are allowed to bring into the cabin and store in the compartment directly above the seat or under the front seat. The limit is obviously smaller than that of checked baggage, as the space available is more limited. For cabin baggage, airlines generally place a limit of 7 kilograms to 10 kilograms per passenger, or with dimensions of 56 centimeters x 36 centimeters x 23 centimeters. Generally, cabin baggage is in the form of cabin luggage, backpacks, laptop bags, or the like.

List of Items that Can and Cannot Be Carried in Airplane Baggage

The regulations clearly provide a long list of items that cannot be carried in airplane baggage, be it checked baggage or cabin baggage. It can be simply interpreted that items not on this list can be carried, although further confirmation with the airline may be required.

There are two broad categories of items that cannot be carried in your luggage. The first is the category of items that are prohibited from being carried in the cabin or checked baggage, and the second is restricted items. Each of these is explained below.

1. Prohibited Items

The list includes about twelve types of items that are prohibited from being carried in luggage or in the cabin. Here's the full list:

  • Self-defense sprays, such as tear gas

  • Chemicals or toxic substances, such as cyanide

  • Oxidizing agents, such as bleaching powder
  • Flammable solids, such as fireworks
  • Flammable liquids, such as fuel
  • Pressurized or toxic gases, such as propane
  • Explosives, such as all types of grenades
  • Corrosive materials, such as mercury

2. Restricted Items

Restricted items may be carried, subject to strict regulations. Some of the items that fall into this category include the following:

  • Antiques, subject to airline confirmation.
  • Lighters and matches, subject to airline confirmation.
  • E-cigarettes can be brought into the cabin but not for use.
  • Firearms and ammunition, permission and strict procedures are required for carrying them.
  • Objects that fall under the category of weapons, may be carried but in checked baggage.

Always be careful with your belongings, don't let them get damaged or lost

Every piece of luggage that you bring should be recorded completely and made sure that it is in good condition before entering checked baggage or cabin baggage.
