Complete, Here's How to Register for Subsidized Fuel and the Latest Provisions Regarding Purchasing It

As of April 1, 2026, new rules related to subsidized fuel were officially enforced. The list of subsidized fuels itself includes Pertalite and Biosolar, which now have purchase limits in order to control distribution and efficiency.

Basically, the subsidized fuel program is a government program to provide assistance to people who 'consume' certain types of fuel, by providing price incentives so that they can be purchased at a more affordable rate.

Following the geopolitical turmoil that has occurred recently, the amount of fuel owned has become very limited. Therefore, this latest regulation is enforced, so that the availability of fuel can be maintained for longer while waiting for the certainty of conditions.

The Latest Subsidized Fuel Program 2026

The latest subsidized fuel program  in 2026 takes effect with the Decree of the Head of BPH Migas Number 024/KOM/BPH. DBBM/2026, by limiting the purchase of Pertalite and Biodiesel per vehicle per day to ensure that subsidies are on target, reduce abuse, and maintain national quotas.

Of course, this program also contains a list of subsidized fuel that is included in the provisions, so that the subsidy target for people in need can really be efficient.

The regulation ultimately does not change the price of subsidized fuel as long as the quota purchased is still in accordance with the rules.

However, if the purchase exceeds the given limit, then the excess volume is calculated as non-subsidized fuel at the market price.

Pay Attention to the Criteria for Vehicles That Can Register for Subsidized Fuel

Not all vehicles can get access to subsidized fuel. The government has officially provided clear criteria, so that people who can get subsidized fuel are really people who need it.

The criteria for vehicles that can register for subsidized fuel include the following:

  • Cars with a maximum engine capacity of 1,400 cc for Pertalite access
  • Cars with a maximum engine capacity of 2,000 cc for Solar access
  • Motorcycles with engine capacity below 250 cc
  • Public service vehicles such as ambulances, hearses, fire brigades, garbage carriers, and the like

In addition to the vehicle criteria, you must also understand the details of the subsidized fuel purchase limit per vehicle. After the list of subsidized fuels, the limits obtained are:

  • A maximum of 50 liters per day for 4-wheeled private vehicles per vehicle, for Pertalite and Biosolar
  • 4-wheeled public transportation vehicles are a maximum of 50 liters per day per vehicle for Pertalite, and 80 liters per day for Biosolar
  • Public service vehicles with a maximum of 50 liters per day, for Pertalite and Biodiesel
  • Public transportation for 6 wheels and above is a maximum of 200 liters per day, for Biodiesel

Adjustment of Non-Subsidized Fuel Price Increase

The increase in fuel prices itself occurred due to many factors, one of which was the prolonged conflict that disrupted the world's oil distribution channels.

This makes the fuel supply stalled, so the state must rearrange domestic consumption so that it is maintained and does not run out of fuel stocks.

Shift in the Use of Fuel Oil Products

This considerable increase also makes many people suspect that there will be a shift in the use of fuel products.

Those who are initially comfortable using Pertamax Turbo fuel, for example, may shift to Pertamax 92 because the price is far apart.

This is also likely to happen in many other types of fuel that do not get subsidized, so you must also pay attention to the impact on the vehicle you use.

Do not let the reason for fuel expenditure efficiency actually have a bad impact on the condition of the engine, which in the end makes vehicle service costs increase due to fundamental damage.

Risks of Using Fuel with RON Lower than Recommended

Each car will have a fuel use recommendation with a specific RON number. After knowing the list of subsidized fuel above, maybe you are starting to think about lowering the RON to reduce fuel costs.

But there are a series of risks that must be realized when this is done.

  • First, there is knocking or what is commonly called the term grinding machine. Low-octane fuel will be more prone to premature combustion due to high engine compression. The sound of a knock is a sign of a collision between explosions in the combustion chamber.
  • Second, engine performance decreases. The pull of the engine will become heavier because practically the power will be reduced by about 10%. This is because the ignition time does not work optimally.
  • Third, fuel consumption is more wasteful. Because the power produced is reduced, there is a tendency to step on the gas pedal deeper. This triggered an increase in fuel consumption of up to 7%.
  • Fourth, damage to engine components and parts. If done in the long term, knocking can erode the piston surface, damage  the valve, and trigger engine down.

Although it has the intention to reduce fuel consumption, the risk of greater expenses will arise in terms of service and engine maintenance.

Obviously, this condition can also take up a lot of your valuable time, especially if you don't have a trusted or insurance workshop that helps when this condition occurs.

The Importance of Proper Vehicle Insurance

Of course, replacing fuel with a lower RON is not recommended under normal conditions. In addition to reducing engine performance, it can also have an impact on long-term damage.

Many things can happen on the streets and will be troublesome. The existence of  the right Vehicle Insurance can help you overcome this condition. Especially if the network of workshops that work with the insurance is very wide, it certainly makes it easier for you to overcome damage that hinders travel.
